Executive Council Highlights

 Highlights of November 24, 2007 Meeting

 

Location: The meeting was called to order at the SCP Office at 9:07 a.m.

  1. K. Messer-Engel reported that there were a total of 490 registered psychologists in the province. Of these 392 were Full-Practicing, 49 Provisional and 49 non-practicing. 11 Provisional members were waiting for their oral examinations.
  2. Over the last two years, K. Messer-Engel worked in excess of 600 extra hours most of them related to the changes of personnel in the Deputy Registrar’s position. Recompense for these hours will be provided within the 2007 fiscal year.
  3. As part of the strategic planning Council met with V. Sluth on November 23rd. It is hoped that the operational plan will be presented at the January Council meeting.
  4. K. Messer-Engel reported on the ASPPB conference held October 17 to the 21, 2007 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Discussion included such topics as the EPPP, practicum training, the World Evaluation Services (WES), and mobility programs.
  5. The SASW is seeking diagnostic privileges which they lost with the establishment of the Psychologists Act and the restriction imposed by the APE. Representatives of Council have met with their representatives and those of the government on this issue. In order to clarify the position of the College, Council passed the following motion:
    “That the College recognizes the right of the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers to seek diagnostic privileges. The College adheres to the establishment and enforcement of minimum standards for diagnostic privileges. S. Jacobson and M. Vandergoot will communicate to the SASW the position of the College.”
  6. Council adopted two new policies regarding the registration process: Accomodations During the Provisional Period and Extensions During the Provisional Period. These policies will be available on the SCP website.
