Executive Council Highlights

Highlights of April 5, 2003 Meeting

Location: Regina Board of Education

Meeting called to order at 10:15 am.

Present: All Executive members, one Public Rep., the Registrar, and former TC Chairperson.

  1. Orientation took place to key aspects of College operations requiring planning and action.
    1. Improving office operations to deal with the workload.
    2. Need for better workspace than available at current Smith St. office.
    3. Council President asked to write Minister of Health requesting needed Public Representative appointments.
    4. Treasurer was authorized to meet Auditor and plan book keeping and financial management to improve accounting methods and institute basic financial controls.
    5. Registration Committee Chairperson attended & gave an update on issues:
      • Oral Interview process requires finalization.
      • Supervision guidelines need details on basic expectations and activities that are functional in work settings unique to Saskatchewan.
      • Procedures for obtaining Authorized Practice Endorsement (APE) are to be developed.
    6. The importance of making regularly updates on the website to keep all members informed was affirmed.
    7. A clear picture of Committee appointments was requested to get required work done.
    8. The Registrar & one Council member to attend the Hamilton CPAP meetings, June 20-21, 03.
  2. Some outstanding issues, previously before the Transition Council were reviewed. These included:
    1. Responding to concerns from other professional associations over Authorized Practice.
    2. Dealing with appeals made concerning decisions of the Registration Committee.
    3. In consideration of requests received from two Departments at the University of Saskatchewan an Ad Hoc Committee was been set up to review alternative approaches in establishing acceptable supervision.

Meeting adjourned at 3:55 pm. The next meeting was set for May 10th with a tentative plan to schedule the second Saturday in each month. Follow-up meetings were set for June 21st and July 12th.
