Highlights of April 30, 2005 Meeting
Location: SCP Offices 348 Albert St., Regina
Meeting called to order at 10:10 a.m.
Present: All the Council members
Others: K. Messer-Engel, Deputy-Registrar
- Thanks to D. Boyes for her help in making the arrangements for the Annual General Meeting on March 19th 2005. Attendance at the meeting was low and Council discussed possible ways to increase interest.
- In response to the expressed need for more immediate response to members’ questions Council authorized Registrar, Dr. Randall, and Deputy Registrar, K. Messer-Engel, to deal with straightforward questions and add them to the FAQ on the website. They will consult with Council and the Committee on more complex questions.
- At the AGM several questions were raised about the SCP website. Council concluded that: a) a “member’s only” site would be a function for a societal body rather than a regulatory one b) a method of locating psychologists through the website should be provided as long as the information presented was only made available with the authorization of the individual psychologist.
- Council accepted the Professional Practices and Ethics Committee’s advice against posting fee guidelines on the website
- The next AGM will be held in Regina on March 25, 2006.
- D. Blackman reported on the ASPPB meeting he attended in Portland Oregon April 7 to April 10, 2005. He noted that the role of protection of the public is crucial and the role of a regulatory body is very different from that of a societal one. The training session emphasized that members need to know what their roles are. The importance of procedure was emphasized especially in situations where there are contentious issues. A copy of the report is available on request.
- The bylaws relating to Professional Incorporation and Limited Partnerships were reviewed and the fees were designated to be $150 for the initial registration with an annual fee of $100 (with GST added if applicable). This would amount to a fee of $250 in the first year and $100 in subsequent years. This fee will be reviewed annually.
- S. Adams was appointed to be the current SCP representative on the U. of S. Senate.
- The Discipline Committee heard its first case on April 22nd. The ASPPB has a database for the results of disciplinary hearing to which the College is required to submit information regarding disciplinary actions.
The meeting adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
Upcoming meetings were tentatively scheduled for May 14th, June 25th, July 23rd, August 20th and Sept 17th 2005.
