Others: D. Randall, Registrar; K. Messer-Engel, Deputy Registrar
- A joint meeting between the Chairs of all the SCP Committees and Council was held the afternoon of September 17th, 2005 in Regina with representatives from eight Committees attending. Each Committee representative reported on the work being done, the challenges encountered and matters accomplished. The session provided an excellent opportunity for the Council and Committees to share information, discuss ongoing projects and put forward their concerns and requests. On behalf of the College members and Council, President Gary Halbert expressed the appreciation felt for the steady work by Committee members and the individuals providing leadership as Chair.
- Planning continued for the meeting October 14th with representatives from the training programs at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina, as well as the two provincial organizations, the Psychological Society of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Educational Psychology Association.
- D. Randall reported that there were a total of 464 members on the Register with 19 Restricted members waiting for Oral Examinations.
- In continuing attempts to secure the needed Public Representatives, Sask. Health officials have now said that Council may gain representatives before the end of this calendar year.
- The issue of establishing procedures to allow for Temporary Registration of a psychologist registered in another jurisdiction arose. The Registrar received a question about the best procedure to follow in handling a request to assess a Saskatchewan resident so that test data could be provided to a psychologist in another jurisdiction who wished to write the report. Council supported D. Randall’s recommendation that the licensed full-practice psychologist directly involved in the assessment should be the primary person to document the findings. The outside expert may contribute observations and then co-sign the report, if agreed by the psychologist in Saskatchewan who completed the evaluation. Council is requesting the Legislation and Bylaws Committee to examine a Temporary Registry process that would allow licensed psychologists from other jurisdictions to perform specifically limited types of work within the province.
- K. Messer-Engel agreed to represent Council on Sask. Learning’s Reference Committee on Individual Psychological Assessment Guidelines for Schools.
- D. Blackman will attend the ASPPB meeting Oct 19 –23 in Philadelphia.
Meeting adjourned at 3:30 pm.
Upcoming meetings were tentatively scheduled for October 15th and November 26th.
