Executive Council Highlights

Highlights of October 14 & 15 Meetings

Location:SCP Offices 348 Albert St., Regina

Meeting called to order at 10:00 am.

Present: All the Council members attended with S. Jacobson arriving after lunch

Others: D. Randall, Registrar; K. Messer-Engel, Deputy Registrar

  1. Council met with representatives of the Universities and provincial associations (PSS ajd SEPA) on October 14th. The meeting was lively and included updates from all participants and discussion of issues such as pre-doctoral internship, the delay between the time a degree is completed and its inclusion on the official transcript, internet degrees, documentation of Foundational Knowledge and Continuing Education Credits. G. Halbert observed that the meeting was valuable and that he hoped a similar one would be held next year.
  2. Legal Counsel to the College, M. Rasmussen, provided Council with information and advice on such issues as the resolution of complaints, the importance of member’s having insurance and the implementation of the Professional Corporation bylaw.
  3. D. Randall reported that the Registry had 469 members as of October 15, 2005 including 369 full members, 53 restricted members and 47 non-practicing members.
  4. The Oral Examination Committee has planned to complete 10 of the 19 Oral Examinations requested on November 18th in Regina. Applicants will receive the new Oral Examinees Handbook prior to that time.
  5. Council considered a proposal by the Professional Conduct Committee to hire an independent investigator to do the initial investigation of all complaints. Council decided to notify the PCC that it will consider any tenders it might seek for contracting investigative services to support its essential work.

Upcoming meetings were tentatively scheduled for November 26, 2005, Jan 14, 2006 Feb 11, 2006 and March 11, 2006.
