- K. Messer-Engel (Deputy Registrar) reported that, as of March 11, 2006, there were 372 Full Practicing members in the College, 49 Non-Practicing and 49 members with Restricted Licenses. There were 8 members waiting for Oral Examinations. The Oral Examination Committee is tentatively planning another test session for this May.
- There have been many College Committee members whose terms were to expire in the near future who have agreed to renew their membership on those Committees. Council is extremely grateful to those individuals and to all who volunteer to be involved in this interesting and challenging work.
- In responding to various Council requests, the Nomination Committee provided recommendations that considered its serving an expanded role in securing member volunteers for committee appointment. Council was most grateful for the documentation given by D. Boyes and her committee members. The proposals provided will be considered as the new Committee is established.
- The Auditor’s report was received by Council. The report was favorable and in general indicated support for the current administrative practices of the College.
- The Deputy Registrar’s job description was revised and received by Council. Recruitment will occur in the near future.
- The Oral Examination Handbooks for Examiners and Candidates were received and approved for circulation. Council agreed to a policy change in the matching of candidates and examination panel members, which allows for a “best fit” based on knowledge, training, and/or experience between panel members and oral examiners when panel members who share the same claimed practice competencies as the examination candidate cannot be found.
- The Professional Conduct Committee reported seven cases currently on their docket, two of which will proceed to the Discipline Committee, two are being closed one is currently in the process of investigation, and two are new cases. The complaints against members most often relates to issues that arise out of custody and access cases.
- R. Cherland has submitted to Council a framework for Council policies to be established that includes basic Standards of Practice for Council members. This was received by Council and will be forwarded to the next Council for their consideration, refinement and use. Council is grateful to R. Cherland for his considerable work on this document.
